  • The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) is a broad law intended to protect workers from denial of insurance coverage for preexisting conditions and to establish guidelines for the collection, distribution, use, and storage of healthcare information. HIPAA is a complex law that covers many different areas, including healthcare access, fraud, and insurance; medical savings accounts; and U.S. tax code amendments.
