Concept information
Terme préférentiel
upper class
Définition
- When asked to define the upper class many people cite the possession of aristocratic titles, large income, and certain highly prestigious occupations; what is missing from that list is property. Social scientists normally define the upper class (and distinguish it from the top end of the service class) as those who live on earnings from the ownership, control and exploitation of property such as land, capital, large businesses and share-holdings.
