- The National Science Foundation (NSF), a U.S. organization that promotes and advances scientific progress, established an interdisciplinary program in law and social science in 1971. The program is headquartered in the Division of Social and Economic Sciences, in the Directorate for Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences.
