President's Task Force on Victims of Crime, 1982

The President's Task Force on Victims of Crime was established in April 1982 by President Ronald Reagan (Executive Order 12360). The purpose of the Task Force was to work with the Cabinet Council on Legal Policy to “conduct a review of national, state and local policies and programs affecting victims of crime.” According to the Executive Order, the goal of the Task Force was to produce advice for the President and Attorney General for federal actions that might be taken to “assist and protect victims of crime.” In December 1982, the Task Force released its well-known Final Report that served as a guidebook for efforts that would be undertaken and prioritized by federal, state, and local governments seeking to support victims of crime and improve the relationship between victims and the criminal justice system.
