cattle towns

Définition

  • Many American communities with railway connections, from New Mexico to Montana, served as sale and shipping points for free-range cattle in the Old West, but only a few such “cattle towns” (or, less respectfully, “cowboy towns” or “cowtowns”) became well-known. Such frontier settlements as Ogalalla, Nebraska, Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Miles City, Montana, achieved temporary reputations as cattle-shipping centers.
