exchange orientation

Définition

  • Exchange orientation, as originally defined by Bernard Murstein, refers to the tendency to believe that one's relationships with others should be governed by a principle of reciprocity such that favors and gifts should be exchanged equally among the parties involved in those relationships. That is, when one person in a relationship receives a gift or favor from the other, he or she should repay that person with an approximately equivalent gift or favor.
