- The myth of the given is Wilfrid Sellars's name, introduced in his Empiricism and the Philosophy of Mind, for a broad epistemological strategy shared between a wide variety of empiricist traditions. The work was originally delivered as lectures at the University of London (Special Lectures on Philosophy for 1955–1956), on March 1, 8, and 15, 1956, under the title The Myth of the Given: Three Lectures on Empiricism and the Philosophy of Mind.
