  • The meaning of assessment is agreed upon in many literatures that serve to promote effective treatment; however, the literature is less clear on the distinction between risk and needs as these terms relate to risk and/or needs assessment instruments. The prediction of future risk is one of the most difficult and controversial matters in the social sciences, particularly in the fields of law and criminal justice.
