climatic oscillation
Definition
- A climate oscillation or climate cycle is any recurring cyclical oscillation within global or regional climate. They are quasiperiodic (not perfectly periodic), so a Fourier analysis of the data does not have sharp peaks in the spectrum. Many oscillations on different time-scales have been found or hypothesized as El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO), the Madden–Julian oscillation (MJO), the North Atlantic oscillation (NAO), the Quasi-biennial oscillation, the Pacific Centennial Oscillation, the Pacific decadal oscillation, the Interdecadal Pacific oscillation (IPO), the Atlantic multidecadal oscillation, the North African climate cycles, the Arctic oscillation (AO) and Antarctic oscillation (AAO), the Dansgaard–Oeschger cycles.
