Definition
- A flow regime is a description of the flow structure, or the distribution of one fluid phase relative to the other. Three main flow regimes were defined by Reynolds (1883) : laminar flow (straight flow, the fluid flows in threads parallel to the axis of the pipe, without mixing), transition flow (the flow is more or less straight, with some mixing (small eddies) and turbulent flow (the flow is with large eddies, with significant mixing).
