climate anomaly
Definition
- A climate anomaly, climatic anomaly, climatic fluctuation, climatic accident or climatic event is an episode lasting from several months to several centuries during which climatic and meteorological variables deviate from an average climatic state. This type of anomaly should not be confused with climate change, which represents the passage from one average climatic state to another, such as glacial cycles, nor with climate variability, which refers to permanent variations, whether cyclical (seasons) or not.
