Definición
- Hydrochemistry studies the chemical processes that affect the distribution and circulation of chemical compounds in water. To do this, hydrochemistry draws primarily on chemistry (thermodynamics, acids-bases, precipitation-dissolution, oxidation-reduction, interactions between different phases, etc.), but also on biology and geology. It develops its own models, such as those for carbon dioxide dissolution, mineral precipitation and dissolution (oxides, dioxides, carbonates, etc.), metal speciation and solid-liquid interactions. Hydrochemistry also includes water sampling techniques and protocols, the study of pollution in aquatic environments and many other applications that have become sciences in their own right due to their complexity.
