Strunian
Definición
- The Strunian is an obsolete geological age, corresponding to the transition between the Devonian and Carboniferous periods. It is now assimilated to the Lower Tournaisian. This stage has put an end to the previously prevalent misconception that changes in fossil flora and fauna from one layer to the next were quite abrupt. By studying the Strunian, Jules Gosselet and Charles Barrois established, on the contrary, a slow evolution of faunas accompanying the transition from Devonian to Carboniferous. It takes its name from Étrœungt, the northern commune where the stratotype is located in the Parcq quarry. (Adapted and translated from: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strunien)
