Definición

  • A chromosome is a microscopic element consisting of a DNA molecule and proteins, histones and non-histone proteins. It carries the genes, the carriers of genetic information, transmitted from mother cells to daughter cells during cell divisions. In eukaryotic cells, the chromosomes are located in the nucleus. In prokaryotic cells, which contain only one circular chromosome, the chromosome is located in a region of the cytoplasm called the nucleoid. The set of chromosomes is represented on a karyotype, or chromosome map, where the chromosomes are usually presented in pairs, in parallel with their counterpart. The karyotype shows the chromosomes in their condensed form : the chromatids. (Adapted and translated from: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromosome)
