Middle Devonian
Definición
- The Middle Devonian is the second of the three Devonian epochs, extending from 393.3 ± 1.2 to 382.7 ± 1.6 million years ago. It is followed by the Upper Devonian and preceded by the Lower Devonian. The Devonian was a relatively warm period, although significant glaciers may have existed during the Early and Middle Devonian. CO2 levels dropped steeply throughout the Devonian Period. The newly evolved forests drew carbon out of the atmosphere, which were then buried into sediments. This may be reflected by a Mid-Devonian cooling of around 5 °C (9 °F).
