heat dome

Definición

  • A heat dome is a persistent and/or powerful high pressure system (anticyclone) that produces a kind of dome during the warm season where the temperature is higher over a large area of the troposphere than in the surrounding regions. This phenomenon results in scorching heat. A heat dome can occur mainly in summer and spring, when the air mass warms up sufficiently during the day and causes abnormally high temperatures over a large geographical area.
