cation

Définition

  • A cation is an ion which, having lost one or more electrons, carries one or more positive electrical charges: conversely, an anion contains more electrons than protons. It is so called because it is attracted, during electrolysis, to the negative electrode, called the cathode, in the same way that the oppositely charged poles of magnets attract each other. A distinction is made between monovalent, divalent and trivalent cations, depending on the number of electrical charges. (Adapted and translated from: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cation)
