Définition
- An asteroid is a small body orbiting the Sun that may have originated very early in the condensation process of the solar nebula. Asteroids are composed of rocks and metals, and range in size from a metre (current detection limit) to several hundred kilometres. Their gravitational accretion could have led to the formation of protoplanets. They are currently mostly numerous between Mars and Jupiter, forming what is known as the asteroid belt.
