- Myotonia is a symptom of a small handful of certain neuromuscular disorders characterized by delayed relaxation (prolonged contraction) of the skeletal muscles after voluntary contraction or electrical stimulation.Myotonia is present in myotonia congenita, paramyotonia congenita and myotonic dystrophy.
