- 1) For a nominal taxon, the statement in a publication that it is subordinate to another one of higher rank. The statement that a species-series epithet is referred to a nominal genus may be made through actual combination with the generic substantive or through virtual combination, by simple mention that it belongs to this genus, whether considered as valid or as an invalid synonym. 2) For a specimen, the statement that it belongs to a taxon recognised in a given ergotaxonomy.
