Preferred term

regulated exception

Definition

  • An exception to the Principles and standard Rules of the Zoocode tolerated by the latter but only under strictly codified conditions in a few particular situations: 1) concerning publication dates; 2) concerning quantitative criteria, such as numbers of authors or numbers of works (e.g. in the cases of reversal of precedence); 3) concerning special situations such as the difficulty or inappropriateness of the collection of specimens. Regulated Exceptions are not Recommendations but Rules which are fully governed by the Zoocode. (Dubois & Aescht et al. 2019 (LZC, Session 36))
